A poem by Michelle Diaz

What time is the Sunrise?

In this darkness it is hard to breathe
No sun, no warmth
Only a suffocating mantle
Stars all gone
Just a dumb black sky

I saw my dreams
Written in sunlight
Daubed on the cheeks
Of unborn children.
I danced inside

Where is the colour?

I even fell in love with clouds
Watched them take shape
Loved their freedom
How they sang to their own tune
Made their own way

But I cannot find
The hopes I grew inside me

I'm tired
And the night no longer cossets me
She is stern, disapproving
Sends me out, naked
Unfed, wailing
